Mother’s Day Morning Tea at St Joseph’s Parish

Past and present students, staff, clergy, parents and community members recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Our Lady of the Cape Primary School in Dunsborough. In a Mass that was concelebrated by current Parish Priest Fr Ian Johnson and former Associate Priest Fr Wayne Bendotti, the spirit of co-operation, pursuit of excellence, uniqueness and zest for life that has been a hallmark of the school was honoured, and the continued growth of the school celebrated.
A special emphasis was placed on the new school values of Compassion, Appreciation, Respect and Excellence (CARE). Mass was followed by a shared morning tea and birthday cake to commemorate the occasion.

On Thursday 5 May at Our Lady of Lourdes School we celebrated Mums, Nannas, Grans, Aunties and other mothering figures in our lives with a special Mothers’ Day Mass and Morning Tea.
Artwork depicting our special Mums was on display. We sang a beautiful song giving thanks to God for our Mums. Fr Wayne gave a blessing to all Mums, then they stayed to enjoy a cuppa afterwards. It was wonderful to have so many people attend.
I write to you again about the protection of our young people from internet porn intruding into their homes against their parents’ wishes. Currently, there is a battle between the Commonwealth Government and most pornographic Internet Services Providers (ISPs) over this matter.
DownloadDear Sisters and Brothers in Christ
In April last year, Pope John Paul II launched a world-wide renewal of Catholic belief and practices in the Eucharist. He published an Encyclical letter to all Catholics, Ecclesia de Eucharistica (‘The Eucharist in the Life of the Church’). The climax of this renewal will be a Synod of Bishops from every part of the world on the Eucharist, to be held in Rome next year.
Why is there suffering?’ This is one of the great human heart questions. God reveals several answers in the scriptures. Easter reminds us of the greatest answer of all.
DownloadThe Christ the Living Vine Social Group organised a morning tea on 3 May 2016. Apart from delicious eats and a good time to catch up with friends, those who attended were treated to a Fashion Show curated by Lyn from Vinnies in Bunbury. Six models showcased more than 40 outfits all sourced from Vinnies and then available for purchase. Much fun was had by all.
To give support to our youth delegates who will be attending the World Youth Day in Poland, the Holy Family Youth Ministry – Albany, organised a “QUIZ NIGHT” in May at the ‘Stirling Club’. This event was attended by more than one hundred sixty people and a great night was had by all. Thank you to Mr Dale Whyte who has been so generous with his time, being our compere for the night, and to all the sponsors who generously donated all our awesome prizes.
A short video of Lee Kernaghan’s ‘Spirit of the ANZACS’ followed by an invitation to attend the ANZAC Mass, was presented to Parishioners at weekend Masses preceding ANZAC Day. Numbers jumped from 44 last year to 77 this year! A new National Flag, portable flagpole and a Gallipoli life-size soldier cut-out were added this year to a variety of other memorabilia displays including signs and succinct documents describing the 15 recorded conflicts (including Peacekeeping) in which Australians have served, since the Colonial period in 1788. These ‘hands-on’ displays attracted a lot of interest and surprise. Our grateful thanks to Fr Pierangelo Repuyan for his moving celebration and participation in our Remembrance Ceremony, in the absence of Fr Concord, who was in the Philippines. Thanks to all who assisted. Lest we forget!
To celebrate the Year of Mercy our Parish formed a committee of eight parishioners to create a visual art piece so that, along with words, there would be a visual expression of the central point of the Year of Mercy.
The heart representing God, was suggested by Christine Emmerson, and Voytek bought her idea into being. The concept of the hands came from Julie Birch and Christine Derickx, two teachers from our school.
The Cords represent Us. The knots in the cord represent our failure, on occasions, to share freely with others the love and forgiveness that God has so freely given and continues to share with each of us.
During the Penitential Rite at each of our weekend masses a parishioner unties a knot on behalf of all, as a sign of our openness to sharing God’s love with others.
The Hands are the hands of each of our school children and they represent all those who wait to receive from God and are merciful in our giving to others.
An entry statement in our Church foyer is also nearing completion.
