Youth Leadership Team
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38
Youth Ministry in the Diocese of Bunbury has seen incredible growth over the last four years. Essential to this growth is committed, passionate and effective Youth Leaders. Growth is a sign of a living, loving and good community and ministry. As our ministry and community grows so must the way in which we minster and our leaders with it.
Moving forward we want to continue forming and growing competent Youth Leaders and give young people real power and ownership over ministry to and for young people.
The Youth Leadership Team (YLT) gives a chance for ongoing training, formation and mentorship for Youth Leaders and Volunteers throughout the year. YLT is our way of supporting and encouraging leaders and helping them continually increase their leadership and ministry skills. It allows for our Youth Leaders to form a strong Catholic community focused on mutual support, fellowship, love and ministry. Finally it gives young people of the Diocese real power and responsibility over Youth Ministry. These three elements together will bear many fruits in the Diocese and our parishes.
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. – Matthew 5:1-2
YLT is a group of Youth Leaders & Volunteers who meet regularly for formation, training, fellowship and to plan Diocesan Youth Ministry events and initiatives. By gathering together, the YLT comes to Jesus to be taught and formed by Him and His Church to be youth ministry leaders. Members of the YLT will form the leadership for all Diocesan Youth Ministry events and initiatives.
Meetings will alternate between being held in different parishes and being held online using the WebEx platform on the last weekend of every Month. There will also be retreats and camps during the year.
“Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” – Matthew 4:19
Youth Ministry Leaders and Volunteers are a part of the YLT. Members are appointed by the Diocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator and can be nominated by anyone – Priests, parishes and people can even nominate themselves. Members of the YLT commit to attending at least half (50%) of the YLT meetings in a year and are passionate and committed to ministry.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Meetings will alternate between different parishes in the Diocese of Bunbury and online using the WebEx platform.
“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold[b] and will inherit eternal life.” – Matthew 19:29
YLT will meet on the last weekend of every month. There will also be special meetings and retreats throughout the year. Meetings will go for either 2 hours online or 3 hours at a parish (including a meal and social time.) Members are required to attend 50% of the monthly meetings (usually 6 within a year) or can alternatively attend a camp or retreat which will replace 3 monthly meetings.
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” – Matthew 13:44
