DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY UPDATE

‘Encounter and listening are not the ends in themselves, leaving everything just as it was before. On the
contrary, whenever we enter into dialogue, we allow ourselves to be challenged, to advance on a journey.
And in the end, we are no longer the same; we are changed.’
Pope Francis, Homily for the Opening of the Synod Path.’

Dear All,

Over six weeks have passed since our parishes joined together for our Diocesan Assembly. The
three days were filled with prayer, discernment, friendship, and positive and challenging
conversations.

Since the Assembly the Diocesan Synodal Team (DST) has gathered the responses from the
Conversations in the Spirit and we have taken time to carefully read and discern over the
responses. The DST is now working through each Pathway to ensure that we are listening deeply
to the voice of the Diocese; represented by members of your parish.

As we now step into our next stage of discernment, please be assured that we will continue to
move forward on this synodal journey.

Over the next few months, the DST will endeavour to keep you updated. On behalf of the
Diocesan Synodal Team, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of your parish
who were able to participate in the Parish Conversations and attend the Diocesan Assembly for
your openness, honesty and obvious commitment to our Diocese.

It is in this spirit that the words of Pope Francis, continue to guide our journey. Through listening,
dialogue and faithful reflection, we seek to recognise where God is leading our Diocese and how
we are being called to serve Christ more fully in our parishes, our communities and one another.
With thanks and appreciation,

Kerrie Merritt
Chancellor
Catholic Diocese of Bunbury
